Casting Call for “Guy 1” – Short Film: First Date

Seeking a Teen Actor (Under Age 18)

We are casting for the role of Guy 1, a shy, nervous teenager with a lot of lines in a short film titled First Date. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young actor to play a lead role in a lighthearted, comedic story about the awkwardness and excitement of a first teenage date.


Role Details:

  • Character: Guy 1 (Lead Role)

  • Age Requirement: Must be under 18 (due to working alongside a minor, Girl 1)

  • Character Description: Guy 1 is shy, awkward, and endearingly nervous during his first date. He spends much of the scene trying to navigate his feelings and what to say, often overthinking simple gestures like holding hands.

  • Line Load: Heavy (many lines, both spoken and internal thoughts)

  • Performance Style: Must be able to portray nervousness and comedic awkwardness while reacting naturally to off-stage voiceover lines.

  • Tuesday, February 20, 2025 – 4 PM to 6 PM

  • Wednesday, March 6, 2025 – 4 PM to 6 PM

  • Wednesday, March 20, 2025 – 4 PM to 6 PM


How It Works:

  • First-Come, First-Served: Once the role is cast with a suitable actor, this position will be closed.

  • Open Auditions: While this role is for a youth actor, we are also casting other roles for future projects—open to youth, adults, and seniors. We encourage everyone to audition.


Requirements:

  • Age: Must be under 18.

  • Permission: If under 18, a parent/guardian must be present or provide signed consent.

  • Preparedness: Be ready to read from the script (sides will be provided on-site). Memorization is not required, but familiarity with the character is encouraged.


About the Film:

First Date is a short, comedic film that humorously explores the insecurities and inner thoughts of two teens navigating their first date. It’s a heartwarming piece intended to resonate with both young audiences and adults, reminding everyone of those awkward yet memorable first-date experiences.

Open Casting Call for All Ages: First Come, First Served!

We are seeking actors of all ages, genders, and backgrounds to bring to life the historical short film A Lunch In Ghana, produced by the PDDBM Afterschool Program. This is a unique opportunity to participate in a powerful, educational production depicting an imagined lunch gathering between civil rights icons Malcolm X, Maya Angelou, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Shirley Graham Du Bois in Ghana during the 1960s.


Casting Call Dates & Location:

Where: 

Bridgeview Resource Center, 505 Omaha Way, Vancouver, WA 98661


When:

  • Tuesday, February 20, 2025, from 4 PM - 6 PM

  • Wednesday, March 6, 2025, from 4 PM - 6 PM

  • Wednesday, March 20, 2025, from 4 PM - 6 PM


How It Works:

  • This is a first come, first served casting process. Once a role is filled with a suitable actor, that position will be closed.

  • We are casting for both lead and supporting roles.

  • Open to youth, adults, and seniors—we encourage everyone to audition!


Main Roles:

  • Dr. Angelou: A dignified woman in her late 70s, serving as the narrator.

  • Malcolm X: The iconic civil rights leader known for his evolution from Nation of Islam to a more holistic view on civil rights.

  • Maya Angelou: A young, talented writer and central character.

  • W.E.B. Du Bois: Elderly civil rights activist, founder of the NAACP, and first Black man to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard.

  • Mrs. Shirley Graham Du Bois: W.E.B. Du Bois’ wife, accomplished author, and gracious host.


Additional Opportunities:

  • Supporting roles for individuals with fewer lines (suitable for younger participants or those newer to acting).

  • Crowd scene participants.


Expectations for Cast Members:

  • All cast members must have their lines fully memorized by April 17, 2025.

  • Filming will take place on or by May 15, 2025, as part of the PDDBM Afterschool Program.


About the Film: 

Written by Latisha Jones, Theatre Educator, Revised by Ruby N Lewis, PDDBM Afterschool Program Teacher, this short film is a fictional yet historically inspired depiction of a lunch shared by these prominent Black leaders. It offers a glimpse into their thoughts on civil rights, human rights, and their visions for the future.


Important Notes:

  • This production is suitable for all ages and is an excellent opportunity for both experienced and aspiring actors.

  • If you are cast, expect to rehearse independently and with the team as needed.


How to Prepare for Auditions:

  • Familiarize yourself with the provided script.

  • Be prepared to read for multiple roles if requested.

  • Bring enthusiasm, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.
